Some people who would love us to live in a nanny state are of the opinion that all crime and suicides, and domestic violence, et al would disappear with the disappearance of the gun.

Yep, without guns, there'd be no evil whatsoever, that seems to be the thinking.Based on my personal experiences,I'd have to say that doesn't seem to be true................

They seem to forget that the first murder in recorded history wasn't with a gun--was probably with bare hands, or a rock.....

Thats quite true. What I find interesting is that gun deaths are usually assumed to be homicides,or tragic accidents. Both of those rate high on most peoples "Give a darn" meter. Most people (myself included) care far less about suicides.

Billy,

I may seem cold, calculated and way too macho sometimes... But dad-blast-it, I do give a darn.... A big ole D-A-R-N Mister

Yeah, but they always make it seem like all gun deaths are murders. The fact that over half of them are nothing of the sort changes the equation in my eyes. If the people didn't have a gun, they would have found a different way to kill themselves.

I totally agree. If someone is determined to do something, they'll find a way to do it :|
