What should a homeowner keep in a basic tool box? Nothing fancy--I don't plan on building chicken houses, or rewiring the stove or anything, but just for loose doorknobs, and hanging pictures....basic stuff. I don't want to drop serious cash on a 57 piece socket set, then a 45 piece screwdriver set, plus power tools....Any ideas or suggestions?

Lets see......Hammer,adjustable wrench,a pair of channel locks,a flat screwdriver, and a #2 phillips screwdriver. With those basic tools you can do an awful lot of home repairs.

Wire clippers are a nice tool to have,no doubt about it.However, just remember that if you're going to do any electrical wiring with them (one of the main uses for wire cutters),that brings up a whole new series of tools you'll be needing.........
